VESTAL (WBNG) — Kopernik Observatory and Science Center hosted its annual winter star party on Saturday.
The center celebrated Mikolaj Kopernik’s 551st birthday and 50 years of serving the community through STEM education and programs. Guests enjoyed family-friendly activities such as building and launching a stomp rocket, planetarium tours, exploring the stars, and more.
Executive Director Drew Deskur said he wants everyone to experience what astronomy has to offer.
“Our hope here is that the skies clear up and allow people to look through the scopes,” said Deskur. “This may be the first time some people have looked through a professional telescope so it’s always nice to see their reaction.”
The observatory looks forward to celebrating the past 50 years of making an impact and what’s to come for another 50-plus years.
